Ballin’ on Burwell’s New Venue will Bring in Fun and Exciting Changes

The annual celebration that begins the basketball season will incorporate many new events.

Queens University of Charlotte will host its annual kick off to the men’s and women’s basketball season, Ballin’ on Burwell, on campus, out in Burwell Circle, located on Radcliffe Avenue on Friday, October 22nd from 5 to 8 p.m with students, faculty, staff and the local neighborhood.

In the past, this event was held in Ovens gym on the university’s campus. This small area, named after how warm it can be during events, limits the amount of people and fun that can be had. Now, the event is outside which is new for the school and students.

Having this event outside will have many benefits including:

‐ There will be enough space for students to roam freely and enjoy the

weather.

‐ There will be more representation of clubs and orgs. They will be granted

space for tables to have different events such as a corn hole tournament.

‐ There will also be a bon fire added to the list of events. This is not

possible in a gym and is a main feature this year.

“This year’s celebration will be different than previous years, and will engage more students, which will in turn create more spirit when students attend basketball games, or any other athletics events,” said Kathi Ryska, an intern who has been working on Ballin’ on Burwell since August. “We want students to realize the spirit of Queens and capture it.”

New activities will be included this year. There will be a dunk contest and 3 on 3 tournaments played on a portable court sponsored by CUB. There will be a picture and autograph session with the players. The newest item on the itinerary is a Tawkin’ Trash 101 session.

The Sports Marketing Association, a Ballin’ on Burwell student group, and CUB is very excited to see the reactions of students and how the community of Queens will engage in the new changes.
